From the car park its only a 5 minute walk to this point which shows the highest point not much farther ahead. The tumulus on the top marks the summit.

This small valley doesn't appear to have a name but the stately home below is called Encombe House so it seems fitting to call it Encombe.

Encombe House and the beautiful sunlit valley.

And obelisk within the estate and a very distant Isle of Wight.

A beautiful panorama of the Encombe Estate. Click for larger version (1.5Mb).

St Aldhelm's Head distant.

Zooming in on the houses and ancient chapel on St Aldhelm's Head.

Encombe House.

The ancient burial mound on Swyre Head marking the summit. The Trig point is just a few meters to my right.

A superbly clear day with distant views west along the coast to Kimmeridge, and Weymouth in the distance.

Spectacular contrast and colours in this panoramic shot from Swyre Head. Click for larger version (1.2Mb).

The isle of Portland, and Portland Bill on the far left.

Perfect up here today.

The summit Trig.

ANd again looking toeards Poole Harbour.

Distant Corfe Castle. The route back allowed for many great views of the castle ruins...

Like this one showing the whole castle hill and Poole Harbour.

And this one which also includes the entire village.

One final shot of the whole landscape gently descending down to Corfe Castle and Poole Harbour beyond.
