Ennerdale Water with Great Borne and Bowness Knott on the other side.

Herdus, Great Borne and Bowness Knott. Thats Starling Dodd to the right and you can just make out Red Pike.

Following the lakeside path past Anglers Crag.

Anglers Crag up ahead above the path.

A small Common Sandpiper which nest along the lake shore.

Anglers Crag.

A view back along the lake.

The cloud now starting to cover the higher fells.

My first view down towards the other side of the Ennerdale Valley.

I've been around Ennerdale Water before and I though the same thing the first time, It always feels a longer walk than it actually is. Here the view is of Bowness Knott.

Getting close to the end of the lake.

My first view of Steeple.

A view down the lake towards the start of todays walk.

Red Pike and High Stile.

Pillar will dominate the view for the next few miles!

Pillar now scraping the clouds.

The ridge up to Steeple.

Pillar Rock.

And a slightly wider shot of Pillar Rock.

And an even close photo.

The craggy and exposed face of Pillar.

A view to the head of the valley. It was lovely walking up here as this is the first time in upper Ennerdale for me!

It looks a long way back to Crag Fell and Ennerdale Water.

Kirk Fell and Looking Stead.

Black Sail Youth Hostel with Green Gable, Great Gable and the edge of Kirk Fell.

Green Gable, Great Gable and Kirk Fell from Black Sail Youth Hostel. Time to sit down for a bit and have some lunch.

Great Gable.

Looking back down Ennerdale to Pillar.

Great Gable now in thick cloud again. This path up Loft Beck was exhausing!

Kirk Fell on the other side of the valley.

Haystacks and High Crag.

And again from the top of Loft Beck.

Possibly one of the best views today looking to Haystacks, High Crag, High Stile and Mellbreak over Crummock Water.

A wider photo showing Buttermere too.

Drum House, this marks the start of the descent down to Borrowdale and also the point where I really started to feel unwell.

Grey Knotts.

Dale Head.

Descending down to Honister Slate Mine.

Down at Honister Slate Mine. I was due to continue down into Rosthwaite a further 2 miles or so but after feeling continuously worse over the last 2 hours I called it a day here. Unfortunately its these things you can't plan for...
