Bulmer is a small village right on the Suffolk/Essex Border and an enjoyable place to go for a walk with the surrounding countryside being open and sparsely populated. I had plans on visiting Belchamp Hall, Sham Castle (which is a Folly for the hall) and the site of a Roman Villa over near Gestingthorpe.

The video is a guided walks video which will give you a much better idea of what this walk is like.

The church in the village centre of Bulmer.

Following the road briefly with the views beginning to open up a little.

Beautiful snowdrops.

From here I can see Sham Castle Folly on the other side of the trees.

The church at Belchamp Hall.

Now at the church and the sun is shining.

Belchamp Hall. From here I followed a footpath to Sham Castle.

This is Sham Castle, a Folly built to be an eye catcher from the hall.

The views opening up again as I gain a little height towards the Roman Villa.

A brief view of Long Melford Church a few miles away.

The marked ground showing the Roman Villa. The video shows this section much better as it is better seen from the air.

Great views north.

A final photo of the fields before arriving back at Bulmer.
